Purchasing Agent Reports To:
Purchasing Manager Scope:
Manages the purchasing and receiving of raw materials and packaging.
Essential Duties:
Buyer of raw materials, packaging, and equipment.
Execute year over year cost reductions.
Insure supplier performance.
Negotiate supply agreements that require improvements in supplier's cost, delivery, quality, order lead time, payment cycles, and/or risk mitigation.
Monitor compliance with supplier contractual requirements.
Initiate renegotiation efforts well in advance of contract expiration and monitor industry trends to anticipate opportune timing to lock in contracting advantages.
Source both raw material (often difficult to find and/or perishable items in the international as well as domestic markets) and packaging components.
Receiving of materials into computer system.
Assist with other projects or duties as assigned.
Requirements &
Qualifications:
Bachelor's or Associate's degree required.
Function efficiently in a fast-paced environment, with careful attention to detail.
Ability to work independently and handle multiple projects at the same time with limited supervision.
Strong motivation, level disposition, work ethic and organizational skills.
Strong interpersonal skills to work with people at all levels within and outside Uckele in a professional manner.
Ability to identify and resolve issues as well as key in on important details.
Must demonstrate a strong business acumen including knowledge of manufacturing, finance and quality to be able to understand the impact of sourcing decisions on the overall business success.
Must understand the importance of seeking improvements in cost, quality, and delivery performance in supplier selection and contracting.
Familiarity with Procurement and Quality Supplier Metrics with flow-down to supplier contracts and performance reviews.
Ability to be aggressive, make judgment calls, and work with a sense of urgency in a fast-paced environment.
Willing to periodically work non-traditional business hours.
Strong personal computer skills required, including experience with MS Office software.
Proficient in the Microsoft Office suite, especially Word and Excel.
Excellent work history, attendance, initiative and drive to succeed.
Maintain excellent communication and relationships with others; be a team player; maintain a positive attitude.
